Purpose:  To recognize students in the Detroit Metropolitan Area who have been recommended for outstanding leadership and dedication to community service.

Student Selection Process

• Students who are involved in school or community organizations

• Students who have exhibited leadership in their school or community.

• Students who are in grades 9-11

• Students who live in the Metropolitan Detroit Area

• Students who have been recommended by their school counselor, principal, teacher, minister or community leader

Notification Process

• Students will be informed of their selection by phone and/or U.S. mail.  (Please Note:  There is no money attached to the Community Service and Leadership Award).

• Letters of “Congratulations” should be sent to inform recipients of the Community Service and Leadership Award.  Information regarding the Metro Detroit Youth Day ceremony will be included.

• In the event a student cannot attend the ceremony, due to previous work or school related commitments, a parent or guardian may accept the award in their place.  Parents are encouraged to attend to support their child.

Award Process

• Students will be presented with their Community Service and Leadership Award Certificate at the opening ceremony for the Annual Metro Detroit Youth Day, at Belle Isle Park.
• Students should report to the stage area (on the athletic field) and register with the award coordinator prior to the ceremony.  After the ceremony, there will be a group photo taken.  Recipients should plan to participate.
